Our Story

Hammett’s Monastik is a local, modern continental European dining experience, offering a modern take on traditional dishes from mainland Europe. The focus lies on sustainability by using seasonal crops by local farmers and preserving produce for when it’s not in season, as well as not wasting any bit of meat to serve simple yet delicious meals.

The mission is to source all ingredients locally within 1 year. This also includes reviving “dead” industries in Malta. Flour, for instance, is not produced on the island at present. That’s why currently flour, as well as oil and sugar are the biggest challenges. Other ingredients like vinegar and syrup are all homemade in the restaurant from the very start.

The restaurant’s name is derived from the monasteries that flourished from Roman times until the 19th century and that were self-sufficient, living off the local land, like the restaurant aims to be.

A unique selection of wines from the best terroirs of Europe is served, as well as sassy cocktails from our mixologists.

Like the other Hammett’s establishments around Malta, Monastik works with a plates-to-share concept. Rather than guests choosing a dish for themselves, dishes are ordered for the table to share among one another.

The interior has a rustic feel with lots of wood and greenery, reflecting the natural cuisine and there are beautiful views of Valletta and the Marsamxett harbour from the large windows.

Hammett’s Monastik awaits you for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
